Energy Saving Tips

The Following are ways in which you can help save energy but more importantly will save you money:

  • Turn down your heating thermostat by 1 degree, you will not even notice the difference and it could reduce your heating bill by 10% and save you £40 off your anual bill.
  • Only boil as much water as required, by boiling water you are not going to use you are wasting energy. This alone could save you £30 of your annual bill.

  • Turn off all your household appliances when not in use, do not leave them on standby and you will be saving around £11 of your annual bill.

  • Keep windows and curtains closed after dusk to stop any heat from escaping.
  • Replace three or more bulbs with energy saving ones.  Each bulb can save you £60 over the lifetime, as they can last up to 12 times longer and save you around £7 of your annual bill.
  • Wash your laundry at 30 degree can save you 40% of the electricity used to wash at 40 degree.

  • If you know you are leaving a room and won’t be back for more than a few minutes, turn off the lights.
  • Dripping hot water taps waste energy.  In one week a dripping tap would be enough to fill half a bath.  Repair all leaks and assure all taps are turned off fully.

  • Use a rainwater butt to store rainwater, this can then be used to water the garden, wash the car etc.
